ICYMI: Rostam answered questions from fans on Twitter about Modern Vampires of the City
- We will get to hear more of Rostam’s voice on this album
- Parts of MVOTC sound connected to self-titled and Contra. And there’s harpsichord.
- The whole album is reminiscent of Taxi Cab and I Think UR A Contra
- MVOTC’s sound is similar to the first two albums, but older and more futuristic at the same time.
- None of the songs were written as a result of jamming, but this album still got jam
- Angel Deradoorian is going to sing on the album and the album is going to have horns (a first)
- “What inspired the songs?” “Lyfe”
- Obvious Bicycle started from a little piano and drum piece Rostam wrote in June 2009 while Hannah Hunt is a song that Ezra started in 2006.
- “We wrote a lot of songs and kept writing until we were happy, so if something didnt show promise we let it die, which u gotta do!”
- There are two spoken word moments (It was mentioned earlier in the Fader article that Ezra is doing a spoken word on Ya Hey)
- Hudson is probably the song that represents the greatest departure in previously explored sounds or instrumentation
- Rostam talked about working with Ariel, mentions that he worked on more songs that he did before for this album
- There is going to be saxophone on the album
- There is going to be Iranian influences on the album, specifically on Worship You where Rostam said he went “totally Iranian” on the synth solo
- Rostam played all the guitar and keys except for Unbelievers where Ezra and Rostam both played the piano
- Rostam wrote most of the instrumental music for Unbelievers and Ezra wrote the lyrics and vocal melody
- No Cape Cod references on this album but some of the songs were written near it (another first)
- There is going to be lots of piano on this album
- Ezra and Rostam wrote most of the songs together
